Drukarkę, czy to laserową, czy też tradycyjną, atramentową ma dziś niemal każdy właściciel komputera. Jednakże drukarki nieraz się psują, nieraz wymagają napraw a te ostatnie nie zawsze stanowią opłacalną inwestycję. Jeśli natomiast wymagamy od urządzenia drukowania zdjęć, różnych grafik, obrazów w wysokiej rozdzielczości, nie ulega wątpliwości, że wybrać należy drukarkę laserową. Zwrócić także należy uwagę na takie parametry jak: ceny wymiennych tonerów, możliwość ich napełniania za pomocą specjalnych strzykawek z tuszem, pamięć RAM, wydajność pojemnika z tuszem, szybkość wydruku (dla monochromatycznych i kolorowych wydruków) jak drukarki lexmark x7675, hp photosmart premium i canon pixma ip4500.
Kluczową rolę pełni tu rozdzielczość, która im większa, tym oczywiście dla jakości wydruku lepiej. Niemniej ważne są takie właściwości jak możliwość drukowania na różnych rodzajach papieru, folii, możliwość rozszerzenia pamięci RAM, złącza takie jak USB, LPT, szeregowe, możliwość łączenia się z portem drukarki poprzez podczerwień. Parametrem laserówek jest także, często podawany przez producentów, poziom hałasu podczas drukowania.
